A site/civil engineer is typically well-versed in procedures for reducing pollutants. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) often requires a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) on behalf of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This document is necessary to obtain a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit. Since the 1972 Clean Water Act, all new commercial developments disturbing over one acre of land must secure an NPDES permit before construction commences. These permits ensure that rainwater entering our collection systems is safe and clean, protecting the environment from harmful pollutants.

Developing a comprehensive Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan is a vital step in construction planning. Our team of licensed professionals at WJH Engineering can create customized plans for projects of any scale. Last Friday, April 19th, Walter Hopkin and Mark Zelina of WJH Engineering attended the Frances Foundation’s 4th Annual Golf Outing. The Frances Foundation has a focused, devoted commitment to bring smiles to kids fighting cancer. Events like these ensure that these children’s families have the financial assistance they need throughout the fight.

Once April arrives, we recognize it as the time to retrieve our rain boots for the spring season. The timeless adage "April showers bring May flowers" has a history longer than one might expect. In fact, this expression traces back to a brief poem penned by Thomas Tussler in the year 1157! Nonetheless, this saying prompts the inquiry: is April genuinely the wettest month of the year, or has it become outdated over the nearly 1,000 years since its inception? As engineers, we have the opportunity to delve into this question by utilizing the Annual Rainfall Data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Read our blog to learn more.
